When determining which Hawaiian islands to visit, we were amazed to find out that the Island of Hawaii, aka the Big Island, is the largest island in the US and also home to 8 of the world’s 13 climate zones. One day you could be snorkeling over a reef, to watching live lava flows, to snow-capped mountains 14,000 feet above sea level and even diving with Manta Rays. Pretty incredible, right? We had 4 magnificent days to explore the Big Island and knew we wanted to fit in as much as possible. The below is the perfect way to explore most of the island on a quick trip and take in all the natural beauty the island of Hawaii has to offer.
In my experience, choosing an area to stay is one of the most important things to decide when going on vacation. Depending on your style, there are hotels in the middle of all the action, more secluded spots or family friendly oriented hotels. Although some of these may be a bit expensive, the amenities and experiences you have are well worth it for a once in a life time vacation.
My favorite part about Oahu is that there is so much to see and do, on one little island. You have the most breathtaking beaches, fun nightlife, lush greenery, mountains, waterfalls and the list goes on. I hope this list, that outlines some of the best spots to checkout when vacationing on Oahu, helps you plan a memorable trip, but most importantly I hope you have fun and enjoy the aloha spirit!
Finding the best beaches when heading to Oahu is an important matter, after all you are on one of the prettiest islands in the world. Most people think of Waikiki when they think of beaches in Hawaii but once you start planning your trip you come to realize there are so many other great beaches to explore on the island. With unbelievable sunsets, turquoise water, soft sand and giant waves for surfing, Oahu beaches have it all. There are countless impressive beaches so I have compiled a list of the best beaches broken down by areas of the island.
The tropical beauty of Hawaii is what sets the island apart from so many other destinations around the world. I had the privilege of living on the beautiful island of Oahu for 4 years and hands down, my favorite activity was experiencing the picturesque views from hikes. There are TONS of hikes to choose, from simple paved roads to scary steep drop offs. Whether you are a casual stroller or like a daring adventure, there are trails for everyone. After spending years trying to test them all, I would consider these my top 10 hikes on Oahu.
We have had so many friends visit Santa Barbara and rave about this beach town. A Mediterranean-style city on the coast, 2 hours north of Los Angeles, with the Santa Ynez mountains as the backdrop. Sign us up! When we got the opportunity to take a sister getaway in California, this was definitely the spot we knew we needed to check-out.
